League Banquet

“Ask anyone in the league, our banquet is the best party in the Santa Ynez Valley. There is live music fit for dancing – this year provided by Mike McGill, “with his fabulous mix of cowboy and rock. He arrives with his whole group of super musicians, most of them on motorcycles.” says Lee Rosenburg. There is a huge trophy presented to the winners that, once it’s filled with champagne, the champions are required to drink from.

"Don’t believe them when they tell you it’s all about the sensational food, superb wine and extraordinary company; it is, but just as much about the competition. The Santa Ynez Valley Bocce League is thriving, with more want-to-join players than there are courts or teams to accommodate them. But for those lucky enough to have gotten in at the onset, the bi-weekly spring and summer evenings spent together were organized more for social interaction than friendly competition – emphasis on the friendly. But even if unplanned, the ancient sport brings a bit of rivalry to the players who come from wide and varied backgrounds."
